Creative Imperfections

The little things matter when creating, but they don't always need fixing.

Those are what makes something interesting and human. In my opinion it’s almost a marker for when something is AI or human generated.

For example, I don’t like photographs that are ‘perfect’ and that’s the problem with a lot of todays phone camera images in particular.

Images clear of noise that acted as sudo grain in the early days make them feel artificial, clinical.

Color correction that made something technically accurate that it lost feeling and emotion.

And now being able to recompose a shot after taking it, adding to the fire without thinking, planning, looking.

These take away the creative decisions we had to make or challenges to overcome. It is those that make our work personal sometimes unique.

The same goes for music, everything can be fixed in the studio so that when we hear it performed live it sounds wrong in someway.

Give me the feeling of connectivity with mine and other peoples creations by way of imperfections that speak to our choices and creative thinking.

Removing the human imperfections removes the need to create things for ourselves and accept what others have done before us. Imagine one image of Half Dome or one recording of any musical masterpiece.

It is one thing to record something for technical reference in the future and it’s another to say “this is how I feel about it” with our own interpretations.
