Begging is the new business model

Rating and review popups are the new popup banner ads!

Provide a good experience and you stand a chance of being rewarded.

I am greatly concerned where the app creation industry is heading. So many applications both paid and free now bug me to rate them on whatever app store they are part of, this is a sad road we are heading down. Do servers beg you to tip them in restaurants? No, they provide great service and I am compelled to reward them and say thank you. Thankfully this happens almost all the time and it delights me to give them something in return for their hard work.

The same should apply to apps, if an application is great and does what it says regardless of whether I pay for it or not, I'll review it. It is not uncommon for me to also email the company if I can and offer comments of appreciation.

On the flip side, if an app continually asks me to rate it or ‘are you enjoying our app?' I will either stop using it, or have started to think about giving it a rating and review to reflect my annoyance with their constant begging for a review.

If the application is a paid version, sure, go ahead and ask me once, maybe twice. But any more than that and I probably won't be giving you anymore money in the future.

The method of good customer experience to get a happy customer that will do something for you is simple, provide a good experience and you stand a chance of being rewarded.

So please developers, I implore you to consider the negativity you are instilling in your users when you continually beg them for a review. We have the power to set a good standard and turn this annoyance around.

I welcome thoughts and comments on this topic.
