Indie Idle Game – Project H8ck Prologue

As I suggested in a recent Podcast episode (A Creators Journey Season 9 Episode 8) titled “Throwing it all out and starting again,” I did precisely that with a problem I have been trying to solve in my indie idle game for longer than I should have sensibly allowed myself to pursue.

So over the weekend, I decided to remove the part of the game that did not work on iOS yet ran fine on all other platforms. I still do not know the reason, but it no longer matters.

I had a simple choice, ship the game without an iOS release, or start over on the boss fight reward system that was giving me so much trouble.

I removed it and started again from scratch, just like the wise me suggested in the Podcast.

It worked. It was not easy; it took a lot of coffee and patience, but I found a new way to achieve the desired feature and avoid the problems that plagued me on iOS.

Understand me. It was not easy and still required a lot of trial and error. Also, a lot of patience as the only way I could check it was to run the game on an iOS device and reach the same progress point over and over. But it paid off, and I’m thrilled I decided to be brutal and take that approach.

I have released a playable Web version for everyone. Since it is on the Web, there is no game save like on the other platforms I have built it for. But you get to experience the gameplay just like everyone else. All without the need to download anything, should you wish to go that route.

Now that this considerable blocker is out of the way for me, what is next, you might wonder?

Great question. So now I need to get the Android and iOS builds in shape, so I can at least get them to a place where folks can download and play them. Then, hopefully, you will start providing me feedback in the Discord forum I created especially for this game.

Then comes the Mac and Windows builds.

An essential part is that it is your turn. I need feedback from players to know what they like and what they think is wrong or would like to see improved. Maybe a new feature should be there at the early release stages.

So, please, let me know on Discord or by using the contact form on this site. I want to make a game that other people enjoy playing. If you like playing indie idle games, you should try it.

Playing has been a joy for me for the past year, but now it’s time for other people to experience it and embrace a bigger audience with fresh eyes and opinions.
