3rd party editing your content and charging is wrong

This morning, I came across something quite unsettling that I wanted to share with all of you, especially if you're a podcast creator—3rd party editing content.

I won't mention any names because I don't want to give them any attention or publicity. But I read about a paid podcast player that plans to use AI technology to remove ads from podcast shows and episodes.

Can you believe that? It's just not right!

I understand that opinions may be mixed on this. Some users might think it's great to have ads removed and enjoy uninterrupted listening. But for those who appreciate that podcasts are free to listen to and not free to make, it's a bit frustrating.

We want to support the shows we love by allowing the ads to play.

As podcast makers, this isn't very pleasant. We want our podcasts to be available on as many platforms as possible. But I'm afraid I have to disagree with editing our content without permission and then charging someone for it. It's just not fair.

This differs from platforms offering an option to pay extra to skip ads. They have agreements with content creators, and it's their content. But when a third party comes along, charges money, and edits our content without our consent, that's where I draw the line.

I hope this doesn't work out and that legal issues are raised and tested. As content creators, we should have a say in distributing and monetizing our content. It should be up to the listener to choose whether or not to skip ads, not some third party making money off of editing our content.

I'd like to see two things happen: either this idea fails and is not allowed to become a thing, or delivery platforms take a stand and prevent this content from being played on such players. I have strong opinions on this, and I'm sure many other content creators do, too.

I'd love to hear from you if you have any thoughts. You can reach out to me here. Let's talk about this because it's the first sign of something like this happening, and it's a serious concern for all content creators.

That's all I wanted to share with you today. It's been bothering me, and I wanted to express my thoughts while they're fresh in my mind. Hopefully, this technology will fail, and we won't have to deal with it. But I have a feeling that eventually, AI will be able to do this to all content. And I'm afraid I have to disagree with someone profiting from editing my content.

Those are my thoughts, folks. I'd love to know what you think. Take care, and I'll speak to you in the next episode.
