Compile Swift – News, Updates, New App

Season 4 Episode 15

In today's Compile Swift Podcast, I have some news to share. First, watchOS storyboards are now deprecated. Yes, you heard it right. SwiftUI is the way to go for creating watch app screens. It just makes more sense and aligns with Apple's direction. So, if you have any existing code, you might want to consider migrating it. And if you're starting a new project, I highly recommend diving in with SwiftUI to save yourself the trouble.

Moving on, the public betas are finally out! Apple kept their promise and released them in July. You can try them on platforms like iOS, iPad, and MacOS. But remember, don't install them on your everyday usage devices. I had a bad experience with one of them on Ventura, so using a test device is better. The final versions will be here before we know it, and the public needs to generate valuable data for Apple to fix bugs and improve features.

Apart from the news, I want to discuss a new app idea I started working on during a live stream. The goal is to create an app for tracking job applications, especially given the current job market and the tendency of developers to constantly move around.

Keeping track of all the applications can be a nightmare, so I thought this app would be helpful. I'm building it using SwiftUI, and you can follow along on the live stream to learn and have some fun. The app is still in the early stages, but we're progressing.

On the live stream, I also want to shout out to some friends doing excellent live streams. Check out CocoaType, Jay Wilson, and NutterFi. They are all fantastic and have great chat rooms. You can find the links in the show notes.

That's it for this episode. If you enjoy the Compile Swift podcast, please take a moment to rate and review it. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. You can find me, CompileSwift, on various social networks. See you in the next episode!
